The Olympic Games have captivated the public for decades and they have instilled a sense of national pride for every country that participates. There are 3 values that the Olympics follow, excellence, respect, and friendship (Olympic.org). The Olympics have lasted for a long time because the modern Olympics are dazzling and because ice hockey is the best sport. First, the modern Olympic Games are coming out as a major world event. Started in 1896, in Athens Greece, they revived the ancient Olympic Games back into their dominance as a world event (Olympic Games). The Olympic Games promote a better world through sport and 6 fields of activities peace through sport, women and sport, at grassroot level, education through sport, development through sport and environment (Olympic.org).The modern Olympics include 35 sports that are well known throughout the world (Olympic.org). The Olympics have brought the world together as one for a few weeks and the winter games are doing that with ice hockey. Next, the Olympic winter games are dominated by the sport ice hockey. Most people come to watch the drama and intensity of the games (Olympic.org). Canada is predicted to win most of the tournaments (Olympic.org). The US’s strongest competitors are Canada, and Russia (Olympic.org). They are the best because they have some of the best athletes in the world. Some of those are Vladislav Tretiak of the USSR, Mario Lemieux of Canada, and Sergel Makarov of the USSR (“Mademan”). These players were the golden age of hockey. In conclusion, the modern Olympics are still around because they are amazing and because ice hockey is the world’s most intriguing sport. They are around because they fascinate the world and they bring it together for a few weeks.
